finetune artist: She Wants Revenge

US band from Los Angeles, California, led by Justin Warfield (b. 1973, USA; vocals/guitar) and Adam Bravin aka Adam 12 (keyboards/synthesizer). Both men had worked and recorded as hip-hop MCs in the Los Angeles area prior to forming She Wants Revenge in 2003. Drawing inspiration from early 80s UK bands Joy Division and Depeche Mode, the duo began playing gigs in the Los Angeles area and using their DJing experience to curry favour with local radio stations. The single "Out Of Control" proved a popular hit on rock stations on the west coast and attracted the attention of the Geffen Records offshoot Flawless Records. After signing a recording contract with the Flawless subsidiary Perfect Kiss, Warfield and Bravin enlisted the help of Thomas Froggatt (guitar) and Scott Ellis (drums) to help record their self-titled debut. The album, released at the start of 2006, was an almost pitch perfect recreation of the early 80s electro pop sound. Almost inevitably, the band attracted criticism for their lack of originality, a flaw that also bedevilled the follow-up This Is Forever.

Eeep. 'She Wants' is one of the best bands I've ever heard. I'm so glad they're getting a good following. They deserve the best.
