Morningwood
Formed in New York City in 2001 by Chantal Claret (b. 21 February 1982, Berkeley, California, USA; vocals), Pedro Yanowitz (b. Peter Yanowitz, 13 September 1967, Chicago, Illinois, USA; bass/vocals), Richard Steel (b. England; guitar), and Japa Keenon (drums), the members of Morningwood (an American euphemism for an erection) had previously played with bands including Cibo Matto, Spacehog, and the Wallflowers. The quartet's self-titled debut EP was released on their Rockhardcock Records label, and was followed by the even more inelegantly titled It's Tits EP. They teamed up with Pixies producer Gil Norton to complete their self-titled debut for the Capitol Records label. The album's mix of power pop melodies and garage rock raunch was hardly original, but enjoyable enough over the short running time.
