The Rocket Summer
Multi-instrumentalist Bryce Avary (b. Andrew Buckley, Texas, USA) has been recording under the Rocket Summer moniker since the late 90s, attracting a steadily increasing following with his hook-laden power pop. An obsessive music fan from an early age, Avary was proficient on several instruments by the time he reached his early teens. He performed around his native Texas and released his first EP when he was still only 16 years old. This 2000 release was credited to the Rocket Summer, a title inspired by a short story by science fiction author Ray Bradbury. The album, Calendar Days, followed in 2003 on the Californian independent label The Militia Group. Avary again handled all the instrumental and vocal duties (with the exception of a school choir on "What We Hate, We Make"), and although his high-pitched voice took some getting used to, there was no denying the energy and melodic verve on the album.
