Sherwood
Formed in San Luis Obispo, California, by Dan Koch (vocals/guitar), Chris Armstrong (guitar) and Nate Henry (bass), this US band quickly evolved from emo pop wannabes to classic indie rock melodicists. The founding members of Sherwood were all students at Cal Poly State University in San Luis Obispo, and after rehearsing for a few months at the end of 2002 they rounded out the line-up of the band with the addition of Joe Greenetz (drums) and Mike Leibovich (keyboards). Released on the Militia Group offshoot label SideCho Records, the quintet debuted in 2004 with a self-titled EP that showed promise but lacked any distinguishing features that would enable Sherwood to rise above the ranks of similarly styled indie rock bands. The album Sing, But Keep Going was a major improvement, with the band focusing on the pop side of their repertoire to notable effect. It proved to be a sleeper hit and helped raise the band's profile.
