Curt Boettcher
b. 7 January 1944, Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA, d. 14 June 1987, Los Angeles, USA. This talented individual first drew attention as a member of the GoldeBriars, a Minnesota-based folk group who originally comprised Boettcher, Ron Neilson, Dottie Holmberg and Sheri Holmberg. Formed in 1962, the group expanded to a six-piece and relocated to Los Angeles in 1965, where they issued two albums on Epic Records. He subsequently surfaced in various pop-related units - Summer's Children, Ballroom and Your Gang - before enjoying a fruitful period with the Association. Boettcher produced their debut album which contained two US Top 10 hits, "Along Comes Mary" and "Cherish", the latter of which reached number 1. He then founded a production company, Mee Moo, and was the guiding force behind two acts, Millennium and Sagittarius, whose work was marked by distinctive soft, sweet harmonies. In 1970, Boettcher established Together Records with Gary Usher and Keith Olsen, while continuing backroom duties on releases by Tommy Roe and Emitt Rhodes. The artist's solo album, There's An Innocent Face, maintained the path of earlier work, but reaped negligible sales, a problem also bedevilling his 1976 group, California. Boettcher then continued his solo career, but by this point was a neglected talent and his premature death in 1987 was largely unreported.
