b. Francisco Javier Bautista Jnr., 14 December 1980, Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. Debonair R&B singer Frankie J relocated with his family to San Diego, California at the age of two. Raised on a diet of traditional Mexican music and American rap and soul, the young Francisco Bautista began singing while still at school and was talented and devoted enough to secure a minor recording contract with a Canadian label. Signed as a solo Latin freestyle artist at the age of 15, he recorded several singles before obtaining a more substantial contract with Jellybean's label Hola Recordings. Problems with the label meant a projected album was scrapped and in 1999 Frankie J left to join the Latin pop act Los Kumbia Kings. In his three years with the A.B. Quintanilla-led group he enjoyed his first taste of the limelight, singing on hit singles and multi-platinum selling albums, receiving Grammy nominations, and performing in front of huge crowds.
