Little Barrie
UK indie rock band formed in 2000 by Barrie Cadogan (guitar/vocals), Lewis Wharton (bass) and Wayne Fullwood (drums/vocals). Growing up in the Beeston area of Nottingham the band members were introduced to classic rock music via their parents. Cadogan became obsessed by guitar playing, resulting in him becoming an expert on fretwork, rhythm sections and also history of the guitar. Other influences such as James Brown started to shape Cadogan's interest in soul, and ultimately helped define Little Barrie's style. The band quickly decided on a back-to-basics approach when many other artists were relying heavily on computer technology to produce music. Three early 7-inch releases on the Stark Reality label were met with renewed interest, with the tides of critical opinion having turned towards stripped down rock 'n' roll owing to the success of the US duo the White Stripes. A further single, "Burned Out", was released on Showdown Records, and signalled a more blues-orientated style courtesy of producer Edwyn Collins. This fuller and more potent sound attracted the attention of Genuine Records and a recording contract was signed in early 2004. Several Collins-produced EPs were released, with the Scotsman even stating that the band had inspired him to pick up the guitar again.
