Kubb
A UK-based pop rock band formed by Harry Collier (b. Liverpool, England; vocals/bass), Adj Buffoni (guitar), John Tilley (keyboards) and Dominic Greensmith (b. 2 June 1970, Denby, Derbyshire, England; drums; ex-Reef). Collier was brought up in Tobago before relocating to Cornwall, England in his late teens. He toured and recorded with popular funk outfit Rootjoose in the late 90s, but after the band's recording contract fell through Mercury Records offered Collier a development deal. He teamed up with experienced musicians Buffoni, Tilley and Greensmith to form Kubb in 2003. The quartet worked on their debut album with Youth, the producer who, among his other achievements, had propelled the Verve to the top of the charts in the late 90s with Urban Hymns. Kubb's debut album Mother, released in late 2005, was essentially a showcase for Collier's soaring vocals, which channelled the spirit of Jeff Buckley into the new millennium. The music rarely took flight to match Collier's performance however, with only the singles "Wicked Soul" and "Grow" making a lasting impression.
