Juliet
b. Juliet Richardson, New Jersey, USA. Vocalist and former model Juliet emerged from the ranks of former one-hit-wonder pop acts with her 2005 solo debut, Random Order. Richardson began singing at an early age, but after her parents embraced the born-again lifestyle she was sent to a Christian school where rock and pop music were banned. Despite her strict upbringing Juliet's first employment was as a fashion model, but she soon tired of the lifestyle and moved to New York to join her brother's band, 1 Plus 1. Initially working as a backing singer and keyboard player, she was quickly talked into fronting the band by their record company. Despite achieving a minor UK hit in 2000 with a cover version of the Runaways' "Cherry Bomb", Juliet quickly tired of the band's manufactured pop image and left to form the electronic rock outfit MNQNN. After working with MNQNN for two years she decided to take the plunge and launch a solo career. After signing a recording contract with Virgin America she hooked up with producer Stuart Price aka Jacques Lu Cont to record the songs that would end up on Random Order. The rather airy synthesis of dance beats and pop melodies concocted by Price was given an extra edge by Richardson's sultry, sensual vocals. The stand-out track "Avalon", a sensual electro-pop classic championed by UK DJ Pete Tong, was also the album's debut single.
