Alexisonfire
Describing their music as "the sound of two Catholic high school girls in mid-knife-fight", this melodic post-hardcore band from St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada formed in late 2001. The band name comes from a combination of the Alexis Fire Company and the porn actress/contortionist Alexis Fire. The original line-up comprised Dallas Green (b. 29 September 1980, St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada; guitar/vocals), Wade MacNeil (b. 5 May 1984, St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada; guitar/vocals), George Pettit (b. 2 October 1982, Grimsby, Ontario, Canada; vocals), Chris Steele (b. 14 July 1984, St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada; bass), and Jesse Ingelevics (b. 24 April 1984, St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada; drums). Vocally they combine three different styles, ranging from the raw screaming of Pettit to the sweet melodic sound of Green. The band released their self-titled debut album in September 2002, recorded while Steele, MacNeil, and Ingelevics where still under 18 years of age. The album was released through Distort Entertainment and achieved a gold certification in the Canadian album charts. The 2004 follow-up, Watch Out!, was even more successful, both commercially and with critics, and established Alexisonfire as one of Canada's premier rock bands.
