Sara Hickman
b. 1 March 1963, Jacksonville, North Carolina, USA. Raised in Houston, Texas, Hickman showed an early propensity for music, singing and playing guitar and even making a recording when she was aged seven (and which appears on 1997's Misfits). While attending Houston's High School for Performing Arts she performed semi-professionally and by the time that she graduated from the University of North Texas she was already attracting considerable attention. Her repertoire blends country music and folk but she is decidedly contemporary in her approach, colouring both these primary elements with traces of pop and even ska, thus broadening her audience base. Her debut album sold well and she was signed to Elektra Records in the late 80s and then, in the late 90s, to Shanachie Records. In the new millennium she began releasing albums through her own Sleeveless label. Among groups and individual artists with whom she has performed are Brave Combo and Freddie Jones.
