Kaki King
b. Katherine King, 24 August 1979, Marietta, Georgia, USA. As a young child King played drums and guitar and while still in school played in bands. Her fellow sidemen included bass player Morgan Jahnig and after graduation, she and Jahnig attended New York University, which is where she began treating the guitar as her instrument of choice. Playing gigs wherever they arose and busking, King developed a mastery of the guitar and soon became a virtuoso performer. At first she favoured the acoustic guitar but by the mid-00s she was playing electric guitar and making use of loops and other latter-day means of extending the guitar's vocabulary. As her recording career progressed, King also began singing and with her third release, " Until We Felt Red, she was making a name in the progressive rock field. Late in 2006, King broke new ground when she became the first female to be named a 'Guitar God" by Rolling Stone.
