Holly Williams
b. 12 March 1981, Nashville, Tennessee, USA. The daughter of Hank Williams Jnr. and the granddaughter of Hank Williams, she comes from one of the most famous families in country music. Holly Williams showed little sign of pursuing a career in music when she was growing up, but following her parents' separation she continued to attend concerts by her father. Williams began playing guitar and writing songs in her late teens, and before long was playing live at writers' nights around Nashville. The next four years were spent immersed in music, performing live, writing songs and recording demos. Williams spent some time in Los Angeles where she learned how to play piano, but it was after returning to Nashville that she began widening her touring horizons, crisscrossing America with Billy Bob Thornton and flying over to England as a support act for Ron Sexsmith. Her recording career commenced in 2003 with a self-released five-song EP, launched through her own website, and before too long she had been snapped up by the Universal South label. Williams' debut album, The Ones We Never Knew, was co-produced by Monroe Jones and released at the end of 2004. This introspective collection of singer-songwriter material betrayed little of Williams' country roots, with the basic guitar, bass and drum arrangements fleshed out by strings, brass and keyboards to great effect. The album was highly acclaimed in the mainstream press in both America and Europe.
