Dottie Peoples
b. Dayton, Ohio, USA. The director and producer of The Dottie Peoples' Showcase on Atlanta, Georgia radio station WAOK, Peoples has also recorded widely as a solo artist and in combination with others. Her initial recordings were made in the late 80s for Church Door Records. Of her four Church Door releases, two were solo efforts and two were made in the company of Rev. Dr. Jasper Williams Jnr., the pastor of the Salem Baptist Church in Atlanta. She toured extensively with Williams Jnr. in support of these recordings and also lent her vocal expertise to congregations attended to by evangelist Dorothy Norwood. In the 90s she signed with Atlanta International, who promoted her as "the songbird of the south". Her debut recording for the label, Live At Atlanta Baptist Church, included her poignant version of "Hold On', which was later revived during her appearances on syndicated television advertisements for a hi-fi chain. On Time God topped the Billboard gospel charts, while Peoples continued to appear regularly on television shows including The Rev. Richard Roberts National Television Show and Star Search '93. Peoples earned her first Grammy Award nomination for 1999"s God Can & God Will.
