Big Wheel
Big Wheel were formed in Louisville, Kentucky, USA, by former Squirrel Bait singer Peter Searcy in the late 80s. He teamed with guitarist and songwriting partner Glenn Taylor to form the group, which evolved out of a Violent Femmes cover band. They were immediately much better disposed to conventional rock than Searcy's background in hardcore might have suggested. Big Wheel (different to the group formed by Stiff Little Fingers singer Jake Burns) made their debut with East End for Giant Records in 1989, an intelligent and well-crafted record that nevertheless lacked some of Squirrel Bait's sparkle. Searcy went on to front Starbilly before embarking on a solo career.
