Apollas
An R&B female vocal group from Los Angeles, California, USA, the Apollas were one of myriad acts from the soul era to have created one enduring hit that developed cult status years later. Their record was "All Sold Out" (1967), one of the classic soul sounds of the 60s. Members of the group were Leola Jiles (b. 2 April 1942, Louisiana, USA), Ella Jamerson (b. Rome, Georgia, USA), and Dorothy Ramsey (b. Birmingham, Alabama, USA). The Apollas signed with Warner Brothers' Loma subsidiary in 1966, and their first release, "Sorry Mama" (1966), sold well in the Los Angeles area, but it was not until "All Sold Out" was released that they became nationally known. Other singles followed, but none caught on, and the group quickly faded from the recording scene.
