b. Terry Lee McMillan, 12 October 1953, Lexington, North Carolina, USA, d. 2 February 2007, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, USA. The son of alcoholic parents, McMillan suffered a miserable childhood owing to the family being continually forced to move. In 1960, he began to play drums but soon turned to piano and harmonica. In 1973, he joined Eddy Raven's band in Nashville until 1975, when Chet Atkins hired him to play harmonica with his touring show. Afterwards, he had spells with both Jerry Reed and Jeannie C. Riley before deciding to concentrate more on session work. In the late 70s, he played on various albums including those by Steve Young, Mickey Newbury and Gary Stewart. He made solo recordings, including vocals, for RCA in the early 80s, and gained a single minor Billboard hit "Love Is A Full Time Thing", in 1982, but soon returned to being a session musician. Sometimes playing percussion as well as harmonica, he has played on countless recordings by major artists including Ray Charles, Elvis Presley, Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks and too many others to mention. He visited the UK in the 80s and appeared at the Wembley Festival. In 1993, as a member of the band that played at President Clinton's inaugural ball, he created a great impression with his harmonica version of "Amazing Grace". After a house fire in 1992, which almost cost him and his family their lives, he became a born-again Christian. He recorded an album for Step One, in 1993, with Nashville's Christchurch Choir. McMillan was one of country music's most sought after session musicians on both harmonica and percussion.
