Lynch Mob
Following Dokken's acrimonious split in 1988, guitarist George Lynch and drummer Mick Brown recruited bass player Anthony Esposito and tempted vocalist Oni Logan away from the embryonic Cold Sweat to complete Lynch Mob. Wicked Sensation was a decent hard rock debut, carried by Lynch's considerable ability, but youthful vocalist Logan's inexperience began to show through on the road. The band felt particularly uncomfortable when comparing Logan with Geoff Tate during a European tour with Queensr˜che, where the highlight of the set tended to be a rendition of "Mr Scary", Lynch's Dokken-era instrumental guitar workout. Logan was replaced by another relative unknown, Robert Mason, when touring was complete. Lynch Mob incorporated more R&B influences, moving further from the Dokken sound, and this suited Mason's bluesy tones, while the band paid tribute to their influences with a cover version of Queen's "Tie Your Mother Down'. However, neither album really took off, and Lynch split the band, opting to go solo. Brown rejoined Don Dokken in 1994, as did Lynch later in the year. The latter resurrected Lynch Mob with a new line-up for 1999"s Smoke This.
