Lyle Mays
b. 27 November 1953, Wausaukie, Wisconsin, USA. The varied keyboard talents of Mays are regularly heard together with Pat Metheny. They met in 1975, and forged a musical partnership over a quarter of a century that is built upon respect and admiration for each other's work. While it was Metheny who rightly took the limelight, the integral backbone of his music has much to do with May's fluid keyboard playing, thoughtful arrangements and superb composing ability. In addition to sharing the credits on As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls, he has played on virtually all of Metheny's impressive catalogue to date. He has also contributed to Eberhard Weber's Later That Evening and released several critically acclaimed solo albums. The "Alaskan Suite", in particular, shows the vast range of capabilities from this dedicated, underrated and unassuming musician.
