Head Automatica
Launched in 2004, Head Automatica is the curious side project of Daryl Palumbo (b. 10 February 1979, Bellmore, Long Island, New York, USA) of hardcore band Glassjaw. Head Automatica was intended as an outlet for Palumbo's interest in rap and pop, and was sparked by his meeting with hip producer Dan "The Automator" Nakamura. The duo's recording sessions resulted in the bizarre Decadence, released via Warner Brothers Records at the end of 2004. Drawing liberally and sometimes haphazardly from hip-hop, dance punk and alternative rock, the album caught fire on tracks that managed to create a suitably sleazy and delirious atmosphere from such diverse influences, notably "Brooklyn Is Burning", "Beating Heart Baby" and "Please Please Please (Young Hollywood)". All too frequently, however, the album descended into empty posturing.
