Dan Penn
Singer/songwriter/producer Dan Penn made his mark on pop music as the genius behind such towering soul classics as "Do Right Woman-Do Right Man," "At the Dark End of the Street," and "The Letter." His career began in the mid 1960s at the legendary Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama; however, his best work was done with partner Spooner Oldham at Memphis's American Studios. Penn released three solo albums over the years, offering a sophisticated, laid-back mix of country and R&B. Although his own recording career never reached the heights of those for whom he wrote and produced, his impact on American music is undeniable.
