Monsoon
The nucleus of UK-based Monsoon were producer/writer/musician Steve Coe and his collaborator Martin Smith. Together they produced a hybrid of raga-pop, fusing Indian and Western influences. They were fronted by the schoolgirl vocalist Sheila Chandra (b. 14 March 1965, Waterloo, London, England), and augmented by session musicians, particularly on percussion instruments. Chandra had previously acted in the UK children's television programme Grange Hill. Monsoon's brief UK success arrived in 1982 with "Ever So Lonely" and the follow up "Shakti (The Meaning Of Within)". However, when "The Wings Of Dawn" failed Chandra embarked on an adventurous solo career. She featured on Jakatta's Top 10 update of "Ever So Lonely" in 2002.
