Bob Hope
Bob Hope is one of the most important figures in the history of 20th-century entertainment. He started out in vaudeville in the 1920s and moved on to radio, TV, and film. His series of "road" movies with Bing Crosby (ROAD TO MOROCCO, etc.) are among his most popular, but he worked with scores of other film stars of the '40s and '50s. Hope created the template for much of what is standard in comedy today, from the wisecracking standup comic to the buddy film. He also became known for his wartime USO concerts entertaining U.S. troops all over the world, and for the money he raised for charity through his legendary celebrity golf tournaments. He had been considered the grand old man of comedy for a number of decades by the time he passed away at the age of 100 in 2003.
