Masters Of Reality
This influential New York, USA-based stoner rock outfit originally featured Chris Goss (vocals/guitar), Tim Harrington (guitar), Googe (bass) and Vinnie Ludovico (drums). Deriving their name from the title of Black Sabbath's third album, they fuse a diverse array of rock styles into a form that clearly invokes names such as the Doors, Vanilla Fudge, Love and Deep Purple. The band formed as early as 1980, after which they embarked on a long-haul club touring policy that eventually brought them serious attention. With the aid of producer Rick Rubin, who signed them originally to his Def Jam Records enterprise before it became Def American, they distilled their influences into a potent and powerful sound that had its roots in the 70s but was delivered with the technology of the present. Their self-titled debut album was released to widespread critical acclaim in 1988, but fans had to wait another four years for Sunrise On The Sufferbus, which featured Ginger Baker alongside the only remaining members, Goss and Googe; the first line-up had imploded following disastrous touring engagements in support of their debut.
