A quartet of Jack Vigliatura (vocals), Bill White (bass), Jack Greigo (drums) and Travis Tooke (bass), For Squirrels were busy making a firm impression on the US alternative rock circuit when their rise was marred by tragedy. In August 1995 the group were travelling between venues when they were involved in a road accident that killed both Vigliatura and White. Greigo also suffered a broken back in the carnage. The incident occurred on the eve of the release of their debut album for 550 Music/Sony Records, Example. Despite the tragedy, the two living members of the band decided to countenance its release. They also announced their decision to continue with the band after they had recruited new members.
