Fastway
After quitting Mot”rhead in May 1982, guitarist Eddie Clarke (b. 5 October 1950, Twickenham, London, England) went into partnership with bass player Pete Way (b. 7 August 1951, Enfield, Middlesex, England) from UFO, drummer Jerry Shirley (b. 4 February 1952, Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, England, also Humble Pie) and previously unknown vocalist Dave King (b. 11 December 1961, Dublin, Eire). Way left soon afterwards to form Waysted. Within a year they had formulated a style far removed from Mot”rhead and soon drew comparisons to Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin, yet they won few fans despite a strong debut album (recorded with session bass player Mick Feat) and a minor hit single with "Easy Livin'". After recruiting new bass player Charlie McCracken (b. Richard McCracken, ex-Taste), the band found a degree of fame in America. With their confidence on the up, they recorded a second album with producer Eddie Kramer. Again, this was a good collection, but it remained largely ignored in Europe and unfortunately suffered a similar fate in America, prompting Shirley and McCracken to quit.
