Hidden Cameras
Upon first hearing, many would consider the openly gay Canadian band Hidden Cameras, as an experimental alt pop outfit, but its members choose to sum up their sound as "gay church folk music". Although the band's line-up has been known to swell to 13 members at shows (including several "dancers'), the leader since the beginning of the whole Hidden Cameras experience has been Joel Gibb. Coming from Toronto, Canada, it was a collection of four-track basement recordings that gave Gibb the idea of forming a band to bring the songs to life, nine of which were included on the band's debut release, 2001's Ecce Homo. Comparisons to artists such as the Moldy Peaches, Belle And Sebastian, and the Frogs came flooding in soon afterwards, which resulted in Hidden Cameras signing on with the hip UK record label, Rough Trade Records. Produced by Two Minute Miracles" Andy Magoffin, Hidden Cameras second album, The Smell Of Our Own, was released in 2003.
