Mrs. Miller
b. Elva Ruby Connes, 5 October 1907, Joplin, Missouri, USA, d. 28 June 1997, Vista, California, USA. Mrs Miller derived her chief notoriety from her popularity among collectors of musical exotica. Her modus operandi involved a seasoned although tuneless melodramatic delivery, accompanying whistles and wholly indulgent, untutored phrasing. Her versions of "Catch A Falling Star" and "A Hard Day's Night" revealed her as a natural precursor to the worst elements of karaoke, although she did manage chart entries for the atonal splendour of "Downtown" and "A Lover's Concerto", in 1966.
