Jacky Terrasson
b. Jacques-Laurent Terrasson, 27 November 1966, Berlin, Germany. Born to a music loving French mother and an American father, Terrasson began playing piano at the age of five. His musical upbringing was steeped in the music of the jazz greats, from Billie Holiday and Bill Evans to Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk. Terrasson studied at the Berklee College Of Music in Boston before moving to the heart of the action, playing clubs in New York and Chicago. His first break came when Betty Carter hired him at a recording session, after which he spent a year on the road with the legendary jazz vocalist. Terrasson has since become one of the most in demand sideman in jazz, but his big break as a leader came when he won the Thelonious Monk Piano Competition in 1993.
