Earl Klugh
b. 16 September 1953, Detroit, Michigan, USA. Jazz guitarist Klugh has an unorthodox style in that when he sits down he rests the guitar on his right knee instead of the left. After studying piano and nylon string guitar as a child, Klugh settled on the latter instrument. While still in his mid-teens he recorded with Yusef Lateef and George Benson, with whom he also toured. He continued to work with Benson and briefly with Return To Forever and, in the mid-70s, he also led his own groups for a solo career. Influenced by a wide range of guitarists including Benson (jazz), Chet Atkins (country) and folk, Klugh's style contains elements of all, yet is presented with a strong feeling for the great tradition of post-Charlie Christian jazz guitar through which his own personality constantly shines.
