Glenn Jones
b. 1962, Jacksonville, Florida, USA. A fixture of the R&B charts in the mid-80s and early 90s, soul balladeer Glenn Jones then had to overcome a series of management and label problems which stalled his progress. He began his career as a gospel singer with the group Bivens Special, and as a teenager was signed to Savoy Records by the Rev. James Cleveland. His first secular hit came with a featured vocal performance on the Norman Connors' song "Melancholy Fire" in 1981. Jones then navigated contracts with RCA Records (between 1984 and 1987), Jive Records (1987-90) and Atlantic Records (1990-95). In the process he released a string of successful albums and enjoyed several R&B hits, including "Show Me" (1984), "Finder Of Lost Loves" (a collaboration with Dionne Warwick, 1985), "Bring Back Your Love" (1985), "Stay" (1986), "We've Only Just Begun (The Romance Is Not Over)" (1987), "Here I Go Again" (number 1 R&B, 1992) and "I've Been Searchin' (Nobody Like You)' (1992) Management disputes resulted in a three-year hiatus before he returned in 1998 with It's Time for Time Warner subsidiary SAR Records. Throughout his career Jones" trademark has been a classicism which betrays a debt to songwriters ranging from Burt Bacharach to Quincy Jones. His 1998 comeback album was promoted via the single "Let It Rain' and Jones" singing of the national anthem at the Evander Holyfield/Michael Grant boxing match. Jones is married to gospel singer Genobia Jeter.
