b. 6 July 1949, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, d. 30 June 1995, New York, USA. A singer, actress and fashion model, Hyman was one of several acts nurtured by vocalist Norman Connors in the mid-70s. Hyman began singing professionally in 1971, appearing with R&B bands such as New Direction and All The People. Relocating to New York, she worked as a legal secretary during the day and sang in the clubs at night. Although she had already secured a minor R&B hit with "Baby I'm Gonna Love You" in 1976, a duet with Connors the following year, covering the Stylistics hit "Betcha By Golly Wow", brought her a wider audience. Although Hyman failed to reach the US Hot 100, over the next ten years she enjoyed 13 soul hits, including "You Know How To Love Me" (1979) and "Can't We Fall In Love Again" (1981). The latter release coincided with the singer's appearance in the Broadway musical Sophisticated Ladies.
