Though he is most widely recognized as the founder of the Windham Hill record label, William Ackerman is a highly accomplished musician in his own right, a steel-string guitar player in what Ackerman prefers to call the "contemporary instrumental" genre. His work is distinguished by its spareness and subtlety, his blend of improvisation and composition, and a technique of layering to create depth and richness.
