Pete Droge
b. 11 March 1969, USA. Even if the world continues to ignore the talent of singer-songwriter Droge he will always have one of rock 'n' roll's most outlandish song titles to his credit: "If You Don't Love Me (I'll Kill Myself)". The perfect summation of adolescent, unrequited love, it was housed on his 1994 debut album and was included on the soundtrack of the 1995 movie, Dumb And Dumber. The song was originally written in Droge's apartment in Portland, Oregon, in the summer of 1993. His mother was a music teacher and his father was a rock and folk fan, and Droge was taught to play the ukulele at the age of four. After mastering the guitar a few years later he hit the Seattle club circuit, having accumulated the songwriting influences of Bob Dylan and, more particularly, Tom Petty. However, the area was soon filled with the sound of grunge, and Droge formed his own roots band, Ramadillo, in direct opposition, although his friendship with Mike McCready of Pearl Jam was to prove valuable in gaining a deal with American Records.
