John Pizzarelli
b. John Paul Pizzarelli, 6 April 1960, Paterson, New Jersey, USA. One of four sons of jazz guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli, he took up the same instrument as his father and by his late teens they were regularly appearing together. During the 80s he worked extensively in the New York area, and at the end of the decade was established internationally. By the 90s Pizzarelli had begun singing regularly, and in some of his recordings was leaning heavily towards vocals, using the model of Nat "King" Cole as his guide. In 1997, he led a trio in a Broadway show, Dream, a tribute to Johnny Mercer. His recordings often find him in good company with players such as his father, St‚phane Grappelli, Benny Green and Christian McBride. One of his brothers, Martin, regularly plays bass in his groups.
