Jessi Alexander
b. 1972, Jackson, Tennessee, USA. Country singer-songwriter Alexander owes her first name to her father's admiration for country "outlaw" Jessi Colter. She spent time in both Georgia and Memphis after her parents separated, and regularly visited the latter's famous Beale Street with her father to listen to veteran blues musicians. She began playing guitar and piano in her teens before venturing out front as a singer while studying at Middle Tennessee State University. Leaving her studies behind to concentrate on music, Alexander worked as a session vocalist and Warner-Chappell staff writer, placing songs with a number of leading artists including Patty Loveless and Trisha Yearwood. After an abortive spell with MCA Records, she was given the chance to record her own material after signing with Sony Nashville in 2003, releasing her debut Honeysuckle Sweet two years later. Alexander's earnest but limited vocals failed to ignite this never less than pleasant collection of country pop material, leaving the artist struggling to make an impact on the all important country radio playlists.
