finetune artist: Plus One

With the plethora of "boy bands" that spread across the USA during the late 90s, some newer outfits decided to seek a different "spin' to stand out from the rest of the pack. Case in point, the good-looking quintet Plus One who use their pop/dance hybrid to convey a Christian message. Music executive (and the head of Atlantic Records" Christian music division) Barry Landis and manager Mitchell Solarek helped assemble the group in 1999, recruiting Nate Cole (b. Nathan Cole, 19 May 1981, Houston, Texas, USA), Jason Perry (b. 1 June 1982, Fort Thomas, Kentucky, USA), Jeremy Mhire (b. 3 May 1980, Charlotte, North Carolina, USA), Nathan Walters (b. 24 March 1978, Atlanta, Georgia, USA) and Gabe Combs (b. Gabriel Combs, 11 December 1979, Salem, Oregon, USA). After honing their stage act before modest-sized crowds in small town churches, the quintet signed a recording contract with Atlantic Records and was introduced to the renowned Grammy Award-winning producer and songwriter, David Foster, who helped oversee the recording of their 2000 debut, The Promise. The album was an immediate hit, as it hit gold status in the USA less than 10 months after its original release, and spawned four singles that hit the number 1 spot on the CCM charts ? "Written On My Heart", "God Is In This Place", "My Life" and "The Promise". The quintet toured steadily behind the release (both as an opening act for Jaci Vel squez and as a headliner), guest starred on television shows such as Days Of Our Lives and Touched By An Angel, and contributed the track "With All Your Heart" to the soundtrack for the children's movie Pokemon 2000: The Power Of One. All their hard work paid off, as accolades soon began piling up, including becoming the top-selling Christian artist of 2000 and being named New Artist Of The Year by the Gospel Music Association. Although David Foster was not involved in the recording of Plus One's second album, a team of top pop producers was assembled to guide the sessions. The resulting album, Obvious, was issued in February 2002.
