finetune artist: Azure Ray

With a sound that combines ethereal alt pop music and hushed vocals, Azure Ray's chief members are Orenda Fink (guitar, keyboards, vocals) and Maria Taylor (guitar, keyboards, vocals). Hailing from Birmingham, Alabama, USA, Fink and Taylor originally met at the age of 15, while both were attending a local art-based high school (at the time, Fink was studying theatre, while Taylor's main interest was ballet). Shortly after their initial meeting, the duo formed an acoustic-based outfit, before launching the alt rock based Little Red Rocket. This band went on to record a pair of independent albums during the late 90s (1997's Who Did You Pay and 2000's It's In The Sound), but Fink and Taylor eventually opted to return to their earlier, more stripped down approach, which led to Little Red Rocket's break up, and the formation of Azure Ray. Signed to the Athens, Georgia-based label Warm Records, they issued 2001's Azure Ray and 2002's Burn and Shiver (as well as the November EP), in addition to collaborating with Moby on the track "The Great Escape", from his 2002 outing, 18. The duo has also worked in the Bright Eyes touring band, while Both Fink and Taylor released solo albums in 2005.
