Eamon
b. Eamon Doyle, 1984, Staten Island, New York, USA. Foul language and misogynistic lyrics is nothing new to hip-hop, but Eamon somehow manages to take it all to a whole new extreme. Raised in New York City, Eamon first developed an interest in music via his father, who sang with a doo-wop group on the side, and would let his young son sometimes sit in and vocalise. Soon afterwards, Eamon became interested in rap and it did not take long for him to start work with other musicians on projects that did not always reflect hip-hop interests (namely, a Hanson like pop group that he briefly found himself a member of). Deciding to blend the smoothness of R&B with hip-hop, Eamon created a style that he referred to as ho wop, even though artists such as R. Kelly had been specializing in a similar style for years beforehand. A recording contract with Jive Records followed, which led to the release of his brazen debut single, "Fuck It (I Don't Want You Back)", in 2003. An obviously edited version of the track went on to become a favourite on hip-hop radio, and latterly broke through into the upper reaches of the mainstream chart. Eamon's debut, I Don't Want You Back, was released early the following year. The album proved to be an immediate hit in the USA, as it quickly reached the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 200. In April, "Fuck It (I Don't Want You Back)" topped the UK singles chart. New York-based artist Frankee, who claimed to be Eamon's ex-girlfriend and the subject matter of his hit, recorded the witty answer record "F.U.R.B. (F U Right Back)". The track knocked "Fuck It (I Don't Want You Back)" from the top of the UK singles chart.
