Client
Initially answering only to the names Client A (vocals) and Client B (synthesizers) and concealing their faces in publicity photographs, UK electro duo Client merge pan-European machine-funk, kitchen sink narratives and electro's sexual obsession to create a peculiarly resonant twenty-first century folk music. The duo claim they adopted uniforms - they look more readily dressed for a day at the office than a day in the recording studio - both as a direct riposte to "the over-made up puppets in the charts" and as a means of aligning themselves with heroes such as Throbbing Gristle and Kraftwerk. The band explicitly says their image is also intended to be "European" rather than "British". Intriguingly, whereas many electro projects look to the alien, vocodered vocal for their lascivious narratives, Client deliver lines such as "I want you/I always have/Anything you want I'll be/Give it me/I'm a sex junky/So are you, baby" ("Diary Of An 18 Year Old Boy") in broad Yorkshire accents. This juxtaposition of the technological and the kitchen sink gives the project an effective and potent aura.

I like the way they conceal themselves. Very Daft Punk.
