Jeffrey Gaines
b. Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, USA. Singer Jeffrey Gaines specializes in gentle romantic songs that centre around his smooth, crooning voice. Gaines' musical interest was sparked at a young age, owing largely in part to his parents' collection of soul records, but it was his discovery of Ziggy Stardust-era David Bowie that truly sealed his fate, leading to his participation in local bands. After relocating to Philadelphia after graduation, Gaines' talents were recognized by Chrysalis Records, who signed the singer to a recording contract during the early 90s. A pair of under appreciated soul rock albums soon followed, 1992's Jeffrey Gaines and 1994's Somewhat Slightly Dazed, before the label dropped him. Rykodisc Records issued Gaines' third release, 1998's Galore, an album which featured input by members of his idol David Bowie's then current backing band, Reeves Gabrels (guitar), Gail Ann Dorsey (bass), and Zachary Alford (drums). Switching labels once more (this time to Artemis), Gaines issued two further albums during the early twenty-first century, 2001's Always Be and 2003's Toward The Sun, the former of which included a popular reading of Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes", which crossed over to the US Adult charts.
