b. Lumidee Cede¤o, 24 August 1984, New York City, New York, USA. This urban R&B singer grew up in the Spanish Harlem district of New York, and was rapping before she had even begun high school. After graduation she teamed up with local DJ Tedsmooth and signed to his Straight Face Records label. The duo began working on Lumidee's debut album, and before long realised they had a potential club hit with the blissfully catchy "Never Leave You (Uh Oooh, Uh Oooh)". The track, with Lumidee's off-key vocals perfectly suited to the adolescent lyrical concerns, duly caught fire on the radio and in the clubs and attracted the attention of several major record labels. After signing a recording contract with Universal Records, Lumidee and Tedsmooth reworked "Never Leave You (Uh Oooh, Uh Oooh)" and released it as a single. The song became a massive summer hit and broke into the US Top 5 in July 2003. The rush-released Almost Famous was, in marked contrast to the single, a bland affair that failed to raise Lumidee above the ranks of the average in the hotly competitive R&B world.
