Weekend Players is essentially the creation of Andy Cato, also known as one half of successful dance duo Groove Armada, and Rachel Foster. The rest of the band is comprised of Darren Campbell (bass), Adam King (drums), Martin Smith (guitar/programming), and Bennett Holland (keyboards/backing vocals). Cato and Foster met through mutual Nottingham connections and began recording together in 1999. The singer's background is left-field jazz and underground dance music. She had previously sung with avant garde dance jazz act, Shod, that specialised in creating tracks with unusual time signatures.

  IMO Weekend Players had the best album of 2003. Unfortunately, the album wasn't marketed very well here in the states. No airplay in my area. I read an article that mentioned they had a concert in NYC on Thanksgiving Eve. Everybody was at the grocery store! I had hoped for a second album but alas, its not going to happen.
