CKY
This US rock band was formed in West Chester, Pennsylvania, in 1994, when Deron Miller (b. 21 May 1976, West Chester, Pennsylvania, USA; vocals/guitar/bass) and Jess Margera (b. 28 August 1978, West Chester, Pennsylvania, USA; drums) first began recording together as Foreign Objects. After changing the band's name to Oil and then Camp Kill Yourself in 1996 the duo was joined by Ryan Bruni (bass). The new look trio came to prominence when a number of their songs were used on skating videos starring Margera's brother Bam, a professional skateboarder whose hair-raising antics were fast establishing him as a cult figure (and would later see him feature in the hugely popular MTV show Jackass). By this point in their career, CKY had expanded to a quartet with the addition of Chad Ginsburg (b. 24 April 1972, Pennsylvania, USA; guitar/vocals, ex-Rudy And Blitz). The band's first recordings were released on the Teil Martin International label in early 1999 at the same time as their music was being used to soundtrack Bam's video, Landspeed: cKy. Bruni was subsequently replaced as touring bass player by Vern Zaborowski (b. 31 July 1976) as CKY attempted to transfer their popularity on the skateboarding scene over to a wider audience. A popular slot on the Warped Tour led to a new distribution deal with Volcom Entertainment, before the band signed a major label recording contract with Island Records. Released in 2002, their Island debut Infiltrate.Destroy.Rebuild explored a harder rocking direction and received a largely positive response from fans and critics. Support slots with Guns N'Roses and Metallica helped further establish the band with the rock audience, although they parted company with Zaborowski at the end of 2004. Miller, Margera and Ginsburg completed the recording of their new album, An Answer Can Be Found, which was released the following June. In July 2005, Matt Deis (ex-All That Remains) joined CKY as the new touring bass player.
