Peter Cincotti
b. 11 July 1983, New York City, New York, USA. Cincotti began playing the piano at the age of three and a year later, encouraged by his mother, Cynthia Cincotti, he began taking lessons. Taught the classical repertoire, he was also free to develop an interest outside this genre and an early non-classical influence was Fats Waller. He liked playing boogie woogie and also played in the over-the-top rock 'n' roll form of piano performed by Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard. At the age of seven he met Harry Connick Jnr., who proved to be an important influence and who also encouraged him. Indeed, after hearing Cincotti on tape, Connick invited the boy to an Atlantic City concert where he was brought on stage to play piano with Connick and his band. In addition, Cincotti listened to and admired Nat "King" Cole and Duke Ellington, and even before he was in his teens was paying careful attention to the work of other jazz artists such as Bill Evans, Erroll Garner, Herbie Hancock, Keith Jarrett, and Oscar Peterson.
