Jeremy Camp
b. 1978, Lafayette, Indiana, USA. One of the new generation of American CCM (Christian Contemporary Music) artists to emerge in the early 00s, Camp's brand of slick pop rock also proved commercial enough to propel his music into the mainstream charts. Camp was born and raised in Lafayette and a career in the ministry appeared to be in the offing when he headed off to Bible college in southern California. His musical gifts saw him being directed towards the worship circuit, however, and the raw singer-songwriter was soon making his first tentative steps towards a music career. His 2002 debut, Stay, was inspired by his recently deceased wife Melissa, who Camp had originally met on the worship circuit. The release of a praise and worship collection (seemingly de rigueur for new CCM artists) preceded another solid studio album, Restored. The latter reached the mainstream Top 50 in November 2004.
