Lamya
b. Mombasa, Kenya. The sound that R&B/pop singer Lamya specializes in is the same smooth and sultry style popularized by artists such as Sade and Alicia Keys. Initially raised in Oman, Lamya later moved to Sheffield, England, where she attended school and discovered that she possessed a superb singing voice. After taking opera vocals lessons, Lamya was turned onto the spicy nightlife of New York City via a Madonna interview. She left England to pursue a music career in the city, and landed session appearances on albums by Soul II Soul (1990's Volume II: 1990 A New Decade and 1995's Volume V - Believe) and Duran Duran (1993's Duran Duran), in addition to performing alongside David Bowie and James Brown. Lamya embarked on a solo career in the new millennium, signing a recording contract with Clive Davis' J Records. In 2002, she released her solo debut, Learning From Falling.
