Lutricia McNeal
b. Oklahoma, USA. This sweet-voiced soul singer first started singing in the neighbourhood community church where her father preached. After completing her scholarship, McNeal elected to travel around Europe. In 1989, she found herself in Sweden where she made her recording debut on several hit singles by the Stockholm-based dance music duo Rob 'N Raz. Staying in Stockholm, she landed a solo contract with the Swedish subsidiary of Warner Brothers Records and recorded her debut album, My Side Of Town, with the EZ Productions team. The first single to be released from the album, a cover version of the 70s classic "Ain't That Just The Way" (originally recorded by Playboy bunny Barbi Benton), went straight to the top of the Swedish singles chart in early 1997. McNeal was subsequently voted Best Newcomer at that year's Dance Music Awards, and "Ain't That Just The Way" became a big hit throughout Europe, spending 15 weeks in the UK Top 30. The follow-up singles were also big UK hits, with "Stranded" reaching the Top 5 in May 1998 and "Someone Loves You, Honey" breaking into the Top 10. An updated version of her debut album (titled Lutricia McNeal) was released by her UK label, Wildstar Records. After an extensive worldwide tour, McNeal began working on her second album. Whatcha Been Doing, another smooth soul collection featuring the excellent European hit single "365 Days", was released at the end of 1999.
