Josh Turner
With a voice deep enough to make Randy Travis seem like Dolly Parton by comparison, Josh Turner hit the big time in country music with his 2003 debut album LONG BLACK TRAIN. As with many of the great country artists of previous eras, Turner's musical roots go back to the church choir, and early on, he was even part of a gospel quartet. For all the traditionalism embraced by his style, though, his songs maintain enough of a contemporary flavor to appeal to mainstream Nashville.
