Sin Bandera
Leonel Garc¡a (b. Mexico; guitar) and Noel Schajris (b. Argentina; piano) have been dubbed "the Latin Simon & Garfunkel" although the duo's sentimental Latin pop probably has more in common with the less frenetic Irish boy bands Westlife and Boyzone. Having met while working on songs for other people, and with Schajris having already released a solo album, the duo adopted the moniker Sin Bandera ("without a flag") because of their mixed heritage and "music can go beyond frontiers and anyone can listen to it in any language". Certainly, the duo struck a chord, their eponymous 2002 debut selling in excess of one million copies and earning two Latin Grammys. The single, "Entra En Mi Vida", was appropriated as the theme tune to Mexican soap opera Cuando Seas Mia. The album, De Viaje, meanwhile, produced three consecutive Mexican number 1 singles, "Que Lloro", "Mientes Tan Bien" and "Amor Real". A third album Ma¤ana, released in 2005, saw the duo attempting to broaden their stylistic base with excursions into urban territory. The album also included another major Mexican chart-topper, "Suelta Mi Mano". Having released an album of cover versions, Pasado, in 2006, the duo split a year later.
